Pornography Stats
If you're doing research about the size and reach of the pornography industry, Top Ten Reviews offers some very eye-opening statistics. Enough is Enough also provides some very informative statistics on the industry.

Pornography and Human Sexual Trafficking
According to the U.S. State Department ( http://www.state.gov/) human trafficking is a very serious problem. Trafficked persons are often found in prostitution and sex entertainment. According to U.S. Government estimates, 600,000 to 800,000 victims are trafficked across international boundaries annually, and between 14,500 and 17,500 of those victims are trafficked into the United States each year. More than half of the victims are children. Child victims are often exploited for sexual purposes, including prostitution, pornography and sex tourism.

Pornography distribution
is big business - $10 billion annually in the U.S.

Both nationally and within the Washington, D.C. suburbs, porn addicts are not helped by the fact that pornography distribution chains are alive and well all around us. We are working to enforce existing obscenity and zoning laws. Click here to read more.

How is pornography harmful?
"It contributes to the crimes of rape and child sexual abuse ... "

According to  Victor Cline, clinical psychologist at the University of Utah, pornography is addictive. It is escalative, leading to the need for rougher, more shocking material. It is desensitizing, and in many cases results in the acting out of the scenes depicted. Click here to read more.

Jill Manning's Congressional Testimony

In recent testimony before the U.S. Sentate Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Property Rights, Jill Manning testified:

The Internet has been synergistically linked to human sexuality since its inception. In fact, pornography was one of the early financial engines that helped transform the Internet from a relatively unknown U.S. military research project into a burgeoning information, communications, and commercial highway of global proportion.
The coupling of technology with sexuality has brought forth a unique continuum of benefits and risks for society. For example, there is now greater access to information regarding sexual education and sexual health, as well as new options for connecting with romantic partners. On the other hand, the Internet has become a highly effective and profitable means of distributing sexually explicit material, as well as a sophisticated conduit for compulsive sexual behavior, sex trafficking, and sex crime. In speaking to these risks, several experts in the field of mental health contend online sexual pursuits are “a hidden public health hazard exploding, in part, because very few are recognizing it as such or taking it seriously.”
